Resilience and Empathy

Resilience is the ability to function adequately under stress.  Empathy, which is an important aspect of emotional intelligence, is an essential building block to resilience.  Skills needed for the development of empathy include active listening, asking open ended questions, responding to non-verbal communication, and listening without interruption. Once you acquire these skills you will foster stronger and supportive relationships and have a healthier understanding of people’s needs. These relationships, in turn, will allow you to function better when under stress.
